SAILOR: ‘A Glass of Champagne’

www.kajanus.com – Video of Sailor’s ‘A Glass of Champagne’ released in 1975. Words and music by Georg Kajanus. All the videos on the Georg Kajanus Channel (bwbarb) were uploaded by the songwriter and performer for promotional purposes under the “fair usage” provision. ‘Glass of Champagne was used in the Marks and Spencer’s TV campaign to promote their Autumn 2006 collection in the UK. This song was recently reworked by mega techno band Scooter for the title track of their new album ‘Jumping All Over The World’. Kajanus also penned the Sailor hits ‘Traffic Jam’, ‘Girls Girls Girls’, ‘One Drink Too Many’, ‘La Cumbia’ and ‘The Secretary’ and the DATA hits ‘Living Inside Me’ and ‘Ricocheted Love’. Another recent Kajanus cover is ‘La Cumbia’ by Cuba Club.

  3. Armydicked says:

Yer Mum Rocks—she definately has a Post-Punk Sensability about her. This song so strongly reeks of ABBA (ABBA-ESQUE) that I fully expected what’s her name (Meryl Strepp) to sing in in Momma Mia.

  10. JoeStunner says:

This and Girls, Girls, Girls are great songs. People called them “Roxy Music-lite” but they weren’t a bad band in their own right.

I’m over sensitive..and i didn’t really know what I was listening to then. Q put this song on a recent compilation & I was able to understand their peculiar charm- your Mum was right, Bless her.

    - my mum was in her mid-40s when Sailor were at their peak in the UK. I think she liked them because they put showbiz back into rock – the same reason she liked Roxy and Adam.

  15. kath61 says:

This was my childhood – does that make me an old Mum?, oh dear…time just passes, it will be your turn in the blink of an eye

Super hudba, moc se mi to líbí,pamatuju je jako moje oblíbené z mládííí

  17. goldheartbadge says:

My dear old Mum loved this band – but then again, she liked Roxy Music too. She even followed Adam & The Ants during their heyday, when ex-Roxy bassist Gary Tibbs was in the line-up!

  18. ralucagymnast says:

George Kajanus said that “virginia plain” definitely inspired him, hence the similarities in the songs. This is such a fantastic, “feel good” song. Its impossible not to move to it. Band member Phil Pickering went on to write Karma Chameleon for Culture Club too:)
